Olga’s Garden – One day she came across a letter written by a young woman, about an aunt, who had immigrated from Russia and settled in Gerritsen Beach.  In the last years of life her Aunt, Olga, had planted gardens at all the bus stops in town as a gift to the residents of her community.  After her death, to preserve the gardens and as a tribute to Olga, the community had created Olga’s Memorial Garden. Tragically, Olga’s gift to her community had been one of the victims of the hurricane.  That very day, using paint and brushes, Rosemary began replanting the flowers in Olga’s Garden.

The Gifts of Memory – Shell Bank Creek, is located off the canal from Gerritsen Beach and is the site of many fond childhood memories.  Rosemary remembers learning to swim by jumping off the dock into the murky water. The McLoughlin children frequently fished for killies at the creek, using a milk bottle and bread on a string.  Unfortunately, despite relentless perseverance, they were never able to catch a single fish.

The Reason for Living My Love – One morning while having coffee with Colleen’s aunt another resident asked to join them.  During the course of conversation, she told them her husband had been a collector of Bromeliads.  After his death, the Botanical Garden contacted her asking if she would like to donate them.  She told them she would… but only if they would agree to display a card which read “La Raison pour Vivre Mon Amour” in remembrance of her husband.

Magazine Street – An artist’s eye sees potential paintings in unlikely places.  The composition of an odd collection of objects sitting on a porch caught Rosemary’s eye.

Off Magazine Street – Several photos were taken of an alleyway, to serve as studies for a future painting.  As in many of Rosemary’s paintings a wandering cat was added later.

Bourbon Street Gallery Cat – While walking along Bourbon Street, Rosemary noticed a small white cat watching her.  The cat started walking toward a gallery pausing every few moments to turn and glance back at Rosemary.  Interpreting the behavior as a cordial feline invitation, Rosemary crossed the street to visit the gallery cat.

Back Room Gallery Cat – In the gallery she found two more cats, a little white one sleeping in a print bin and another in a back room.

The Market on Rue Mouffetard – While in Paris, they stayed in a Youth Hostel on Rue Mouffetard. One morning at a picturesque market down the street, a striped cat sat on the back of a pony, posing for what would become a future painting.

Carousel on Montmarte –An elaborate carousel sitting idle near the foot of the hill leading up to the majestic Sacré-Coeur Basilica was the scene for this painting.

Bayeux Tapestry – The top of painting depicts a canal scene in Normandy France.  Along the base of the painting is a scene from the 11^th century Bayeux Tapestry which was created to celebrate the victory of William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings.

The Storks Return – Every year in Colmar France, the storks return to build their nests in the chimneys.

Postcard from Bruges – Since the 15^th century swans have graced the canals of Bruges, Belgium and were believed by citizens to be elegant symbols of the city’s wealth and power.

Waiting for Lunch at Pensione San Lorenzo – Every day the ladies in the kitchen would throw out the leftover pasta.  Behind the pensione the birds waited for a late lunch.

Grand Canal Memory of a Semester – Based on a scene from the Grand Canal in Venice Italy.  The border along the bottom of the painting shows a necklace made of glass beads and colorful candies, also made of glass.
